JUNIOR GOLF

Junior golf : In Ireland junior golf has come increasingly more common, There are a variety of provincial events e.g (Leinster boys , Munster boys, Irish boys) there are 4 main age groups under 13s under15s under 18s and under 21s. The winner is decided over 4 rounds of 18 holes in three days which means that everybody plays the first two days and the top half of the field playing qualify to the final day where there is 36 holes ( 2 rounds) played in one day. The lowest gross score wins the tournament.

There are two types of Panels , provincial and national, you first get onto a provincial panel by scoring well in events and having a low handicap, if you continue to achieve wins and get a lower handicap you will be put onto Ireland's elite national panel for your age group.you will then travel to different parts of the world competing in different events with the national team.

RULES: There are many different formats of playing golf, the most common would be singles stroke play. In this format you can play with up to four players per group but you are playing as an individual. You must swap score cards with your playing partners on the first tee this means that they will recore your score per hole and you will record theres to ensure that no one is cheating. Your score per hole is measured in the amount of shots that you take to get in the hole. At the end of the 18 holes you then total up your score and that sum is your gross score.
There are 3 types of holes a par 3 a par 4 and a par 5. If you score a 3 on a par 3 then you have got a par is you get a 4 on a par 3 it is a bogey and if you get a 5 on a par 3 it is a double bogey etc and if you get a 2 on a par 3 it is a birdie , this is the same system for each of the holes. How to calculate net score ? you take your gross score and take it away from your handicap, for example if i shoot a gross 82 and I play of 12 then i have shot a net 70. If the par of the course is 72 then you have shot two better than your handicap therefore it will be reduced. Men usualy start of with a handicap of 28 and women start at 36.

Golf Courses of Ireland
With over 300 golf courses, is it any wonder that Ireland is green? World renowned courses dot the map but it is also the informal and friendly manner in which the game is played, that makes Irish golf a special experience. Ireland is home to some of the worlds greatest golf course for example Ballybunnion links, The K club and the world famous Old Head of Kinsale which is designed on a peninsula.  I have had the privilege to play all three of these courses and was an experience i will never forget.   The K club hosted the 2006 Ryder Cup which is now known as the greatest and most exciting Ryder Cup in Europe.
